17th Reigate Beavers - Autumn Term 2013

13.9.13 - Penny Games / Swim-Up

We started back after the Summer holidays with our old favourite 'Who is under the blanket?' game.

Tracey Dunnet, the Assistant District Commissioner for Beavers, joined us for the evening and enjoyed hearing about the Beavers' holiday adventures.

Gordon then led our practice for the 'Mile of Pennies' fundraising challenge.

At the end of the evening we said 'goodbye' to our two oldest Beavers as they 'swam-up' to Cubs.

A busy start to the new term!!

20.9.13 - New Beavers / Games

This term we welcomed two new Beavers who have both settled in brilliantly. The parachute came out for a bit of fun, especially with Hawkeye directing the 'Spin the Beaver' game.

21.9.13 - World Record Attempt - Mile of Pennies

A huge 'thank-you' once again to everyone who collected pennies and helped out on the day.  We raised about £1000 from this event and it was a great thing to be involved in.

From this .....

... to this.

The children were superbly behaved on the day and made a great contribution to our world record attempt.

27.9.13 - Out and About - Reigate Hill

This time the weather conditions permitted us to go down the hill for our walk starting at Reigate Hill.  The Beavers coped extremely well with what was quite a challenging walk.  Well done everyone and thanks too to our many parents and helpers who joined us.

4.10.13 - Out and About - Bat Walk at Earlswood Lakes

Vinnie gave the Beavers an introductory talk on bats before we set off in search of the real thing.  Armed with 'bat detectors', we managed to see a few, as well as enjoying a nice evening by the lake.

11.10.13 - Games and Investitures

Due to bad weather we unfortunately had to cancel the planned campfire at Ron's.  Undeterred though, we made up for it by playing dodge ball and getting out the parachute.

Our two new Beavers were invested and officially became part of the group.

18.10.13 - Staying Safe

As part of the 'Safety Activity Badge', one of the Beavers brought along his policeman Dad to talk to the colony about keeping safe.  We also thought about 'Stranger Danger' and 'The Green Cross Code.'

The evening was a great success and the Beavers should be congratulated on taking the discussions seriously. Well done everyone.

25.10.13 - United Nations + Falcon's Promise

Tracey Dunnet (Beaver Assistant District Commissioner) was back again to join us for Falcon's brilliant 'United Nations' evening.  The Beavers had a chance to create their own nations before testing their geographical knowledge through a game.  At the end of the evening Falcon made his Scout promise.  (No escape now Alasdair!!)

8.11.13 - Out and About - Redhill Town Quiz

We met in town and worked in lodges to complete a town quiz before descending on Macdonalds for a quick bite to eat.  There were some Brownies in there too and everyone came away with a free balloon.  An unsuspecting Beaver was also delighted to be awarded 'Beaver of the Week'.

15.11.13 - Out and About - Reigate Caves

An interesting visit to the Reigate Caves which gave us all a chance to explore and learn about local history.  Thanks again to our many parents and helpers which make such visits possible.

22.11.13 - Train Driver Dan's Safety Talk - Choo choo!

Once again, Dan very kindly joined the Beavers to share with us his experiences as a train driver, remind us of important safety issues and give the Beavers a chance to look at his  safety equipment.  He also showed us signals used by railway workers for moving trains.

 23.11.13 - District Christmas Crafts

Four Beavers joined in this event at St. Matthews and went home with a packed bag of goodies that they had all made themselves.  You were all a real credit to the group!

29.11.13 - Out and About - All Aboard the Nutfield Express

Time for the 17th Reigate Beavers to make another epic train journey.  As before, this was a one-stop trip to South Nutfield and back!!  The Beavers, many with 'mad hair' from a themed day at school, sensibly bustled onto the train in Redhill.  After a quick journey, we made our way to the Scout Hut for some rather noisy games before safely making our way back to the station. Another huge 'thank you' to our helpers and parents, especially to 'Owl' who had to run down the road to meet one Beaver who was stuck in traffic.

6.12.13 - Christmas Party / Chief Scout Bronze Awards

There was craft stuff everywhere as the Beavers made cards and Christmas trees before enjoying party food and games led by our Young Leaders.  Mike, our Group Scout Leader, joined us for the evening so that he could present five of our Beavers with their hard-earned Chief Scout Bronze Awards, the highest badge that can be achieved in Beavers.

13.12.13 - Out and About - Panto!!

This year, 17th Reigate Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, leaders, committee members and Father Chris decided to join the Beavers on our annual trip to the panto. Great fun was had by all, especially by the Beaver of the Week, who managed to make another guest appearance.

This term we have continued to enjoy great support from parents and helpers.  Thank you to you all.  It is very much appreciated!!  'Thanks' too to all of the Beavers who have helped with our fundraising drive for the new hall.

Here's to a fun-packed 2014.

P.S. See if you can spot the mystery carol singer next to Owl (Karen).
