Exploring the Mosque

On Friday 8 November six explorers visited the local Mosque in Earlswood as part of their Chief Scout Award covering one of the values learning about other cultures. After an introduction from the Imam (leader of the mosque), we then went on to kern things such as the 5 pillars of the Muslim faith, all about the Koran, who Prophet Mohammed was and the importance of prayer.

This was an extremely informative evening and a better understanding of their faith, beliefs and culture. There were a number of questions asked such as why women have to wear headscarves, do children attend prayer sessions 4 times a day and why do the women pray separately from the men.

After a tour of the mosque to see the various prayer rooms and the wash facilities (Muslims have to wash before every prayer session), the Imam and his committee generously shared crisps and drinks with us all.
