When adults sign up as leaders and take out warrants to run their various sections there is an old myth that suggests that it is only two hours a week. Whereas there is some truth in this when running the weekly section meeting or activities, the reality is that there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that the Group runs well and that the range of activities offered continues to excite, enthuse and enthral the young people.
The week just gone is a great example of the extra things that Leaders get involved with outside of the usual Tuesday, Thursday or Friday evening. There has been a District meeting, Cubs go karts, preparation and running the annual Scout survival camp, 2015 Jamboree selection weekend, monthly teas and coffee, fundraising conversations as well as the usual, emails and phonecalls to either remind of future activities or start planning the next events.
The week ahead also has numerous other things happening - fundraising meeting, weekend leader training, discussion / meeting about a grant application and church parade.
This isn't a moan or self-promotion but an opportunity to inform you of the 'extras'. This is what makes our Group so successful and with our Building for the Future project there are exciting times ahead. So why not join us in this success and become more involved!
