Our camping adventures allow us to appreciate many campsites around the County and further field. These provide great facilities and a good range of activities but generally, like Scouting, they require a team of volunteers to look after the upkeep of the site and run activities.
And so it was over the weekend of 27th
to 29th September we gave a little bit back to our own County
Campsite, Bentley Copse, by providing service duties under the watchful eye of
the Warden. With a long list to tackle, the junior service crew of Tors,
Helena, Alice and Shauna with the assistance of Mandy and Tony cleaned algae
and mould off downpipes, serviced the go-karts, swept up leaves which were then
burnt along with cardboard, cleared the driveway and access road, and unblocked
various ditches and drains.
In return for the hard work there was an
opportunity to do some climbing and abseiling.
Future service weekend dates have been set
for next year, 7th to 9th February and 19th to
21st September so make a note of these in your diaries now.
