There are hundreds of survival skills books around but this is one of the best I've read (Mike). It covers all of the basic skills needed on the Scouts' survival course and much, much more - written by a guy who teaches survival skills to the Royal Marines. Very good explanations and lots of detailed pictures and diagrams. Highly recommended. It's a hardback book and isn't very portable, though this should not put you off! And apparently there's a paperback version due out early 2012. Full title is "The Survival Handbook in Association with the Royal Marines Commandos: Endurance Essentials for the Great Outdoors" by Colin Trowell. Currently £11.09 on Amazon.
