Shocktober Camp at Reigate Fort

Seventeen Scouts and six Explorers from 17th Reigate were the first Scout Group in around twenty years to camp at Reigate Fort, after camping permissions were granted by the National Trust.

We picked night before Hallow'een for our camp as the fort has a reputation for being haunted by the ghost of a black dog. The group huddled around a campfire whilst Tony described the history of the site which has included a meeting-place for witches (and a mass burning) and, more recently, a mobilization post in the second world war for distributing ammunition to fortifications across the North Downs.  The Scouts slept soundly undisturbed by ghostly beasts, the rain presumably having driven them inside!
