Survival Camp 2010

Nine brave Scouts took part in this year's Survival Camp at Broadstone Warren... and survived the experience.  A light rainshower on Friday night tested firelighting skills to the limit, with all Scouts deciding that warm sleeping bags were preferable to trying to blow life into a pile of damp twigs!

On Saturday we moved to a different part of the campsite with a better supply of dry firewood.  The day was spent purifying water collected from the stream and building two-man shelters out of branches and bracken (tarpaulens not allowed).  In the afternoon, three brave volunteers skinned and jointed fresh rabbits (having observed the "kissing your rabbit" ritual to show it respect) before turning them into a tasty rabbit stew.

On Sunday, the waterproofing on some shelters was tested (all failed!), we broke camp, and Scouts hiked out to Wier Wood reservoir, led by the three Scouts also doing their Expedition Challenge.
