National Water Rockets Competition

Once again the 17th Reigate Scout Group entered into the National Water Rockets Competition, held annually at NPL, Teddington. This is now the 4th year that we have entered and have always been welcomed into the exclusive club of Rocketeers!

In previous years we have managed to achieve 3rd place, 2nd place and a special award for 'best engineered launcher'. Hoping for that elusive win we entered three teams, one from Cubs, one from Scouts and one Explorers under the management of  Gordon. Surely with Gordon Collings as a name the omens would be on our side with connections to Flash Gordon (and the Rocket Men) and Michael Collins (of Apollo 11).

Based in launch positions of 1,2 & 3 the objective was to fire a rocket and land into in the scoring zone.  The Explorer team hit the target, cubs overshot and as for the Scouts it managed a total distance of about 10 metres.

After two more rounds, numerous adjustments and rebuilds of the launchers we still found ourselves chasing 1st position and sadly after all the scores were added up the elusive prize is still for grabs. However it wasn't all disappointment we did managed to safely land an egg unbroken and for the 2nd year in a row the Cubs team led by Matt won the 'best engineered launcher'.
