Connor walks over 100 miles

Congratulations to Connor Johnson, who was recently awarded an engraved stave for completing 100 miles of Scouting Hikes.  Pictured above, Connor was presented with the stave by our Group Scout Leader, Mike Phillipson at a recent Scout evening.    Connor has completed 19 hikes totalling 103 miles.

"Hikes Away" are recorded every time a Beaver, Cub, Scout or Explorer completes a hike, and these are transferred when moving between sections.

Badges are awarded when 1, 5, 10, 20, 35 or 50 hikes have been completed.

The staff (stave) was adopted by the Founder, Lord Baden-Powell, because of its usefulness during one of his early military campaigns in the jungle country of West Africa. He used it for testing the depths of swamp holes and dark streams; for guarding his face when pushing through heavy bush; for feeling his way in the dark; and for carrying bundles over his shoulder when wading a stream.

Congratulations Connor
