Chief Scouts Gold Award presentation

In a first in the history of 17th Reigate, six of our Scouts (five now in Explorers) were presented with their Chief Scouts Gold Award certificates in a ceremony in Epsom on Saturday 26th June.  The evening was introduced by the County Commissioner for Scouts, Mr Richard Shortman, and the certificates were presented by the guest of honour Mr Robin Field-Smith, MBE, who afterwards gave a speech praising the Scouts for their achievement and extolling the benefits of Scouting in the development of young people and equipping them with skills useful thoughout their lives.

The Chief Scouts Award is the highest award a Scout can achieve.  To achieve it, a Scout must complete all of the Challenge Badges (Global, Community, Outdoor, Creative, Fitness, Adventure, Expedition, and Promise) and produce a log-book recording the activities completed for each badge.  The District Commissioner (Steve Robinson), on inspecting the log-books, commented that they were among the best he'd ever seen.
